RAG chat (retrieval-augmented generation) lets you ask questions in natural language and get answers grounded in your own documents, with citations, rather than the model's general knowledge. Over meeting notes, you can ask “what did we decide about pricing last quarter?” and get an answer pulled from your actual transcripts. Reline's RAG chat stays inside one scope at a time, such as a note, a folder, a teamspace, a person or your whole workspace, and uses only notes you have access to. Its answers can cite the note or the exact moment they came from, so you can trace a claim back to its source and play that moment from the saved recording.
In practice
Most teams reach for RAG chat when an answer is spread across many meetings: what a customer said about pricing over three calls, what changed since the kickoff, or what is still open before a review. It saves digging through folders, but only when retrieval finds the right meetings. Common failures are an answer built from an outdated note, a confident reply when nothing relevant was found, and results that include notes the person asking should not see. When you choose a tool, check three things. Can you set the scope, from one note up to a whole workspace? Does each answer show its sources so you can open them? Does it only search notes you are allowed to read?

- What is RAG in simple terms?
- RAG, short for retrieval-augmented generation, means the AI looks things up before it answers. It searches your documents for passages that match the question, adds them to the prompt, and writes the answer from them. That lets it answer about your own material, which a general model never saw in training.
- Does RAG stop AI hallucinations?
- It reduces them but does not stop them. If retrieval misses the right passage or pulls an outdated one, the model can still give a confident wrong answer. Answers that show their sources help most, because you can open the source and check the claim before you use it.
- Which notes can Reline's chat answer from?
- Only notes you have access to. A new chat on the Chat page covers your whole workspace. From a note, it reads that note and its transcript, and searches its sub-pages. From a folder, teamspace, person, company or My notes, it stays inside that scope. Type @ to add a specific note.
