The best alternative to Fathom depends on why you are leaving. For no bot on any computer: Reline, Granola or Jamie. For full AI summaries on a free plan every month: Reline. For a cheaper paid seat: Otter. For a team library with CRM workflows: tl;dv or Fireflies. Only comparing Fathom with Granola? Our head-to-head covers that.

Why do people look for an alternative to Fathom?

Fathom has one of the most generous free plans in the category: unlimited recordings and transcripts, forever. People leave for five other reasons, and each one points to a different replacement:

  • The bot. Fathom joins calls as a bot by default. Its bot-free capture is a beta for Mac only (macOS 14.2 or newer, rolled out in phases); on Windows it is a limited Microsoft Teams alpha, per Fathom's help center.
  • The free plan caps the good summaries. Free includes advanced AI summaries for your first 5 calls each month; after that you get the basic template. AI action items and follow-up emails are paid features, and Ask Fathom is marked limited use on Free.
  • Team pricing. Team ($15 billed annually, $19 monthly) and Business ($25 and $34) need at least 2 users; individuals pay $16 or $20 for Premium.
  • Languages in bot-free mode. Fathom transcribes 38 languages with its bot, but the bot-free version supports English and 19 others.
  • Data use. Fathom says its AI vendors may not train on your data, but it uses de-identified customer data to improve its own models unless you opt out in settings.

Fathom alternatives compared: prices and free plans

Prices are per seat per month, from each vendor's own pricing page on 23 October 2026. Plans change often, so check the live page before you buy.

If the bot is the reason: Reline, Granola or Jamie

First check Fathom's own option: on a recent Mac you can join its bot-free beta. Its help center lists two modes, Transcript Only, which saves no recording, and Audio Only, which keeps audio but no video. If you are on Windows or Linux, or want no bot on every plan, three tools are built that way:

  • Reline captures your microphone and the call audio locally on macOS, Windows, Linux (beta) or in the browser, transcribes live in the cloud, keeps the recording next to the AI summary and lets you press play on any transcript line.
  • Granola records device audio with no bot on every plan, including free, and has iOS and Android apps. Its pricing page says audio is deleted after transcription, so there is nothing to replay later.
  • Jamie is a Mac and Windows desktop app that, per its docs, needs no virtual bot in the meeting, with EU hosting on all plans.

Bot-free does not mean consent-free. A local recorder is less visible than a bot, so you stay responsible for telling people you are recording and for following the law where you and they are.

If the free plan is the reason: what each free tier really gives

Fathom is hard to beat on free recording volume. Where it is strict is AI: 5 advanced summaries a month. Other free plans trade differently:

  • Reline: 10 hours of transcription a month, each with a full AI summary and Lenses, renewing every month, and transcripts are never auto-deleted. Fewer hours than Fathom, more AI per meeting.
  • Granola: no meeting cap listed, but Basic keeps only 30 days of history.
  • Jamie: 10 AI notes a month, meetings up to 30 minutes.
  • Otter: 300 minutes a month, but each conversation stops at 30 minutes and only your 25 most recent conversations stay in history.
  • tl;dv: AI notes for your first 10 meetings ever, then the first 10 minutes of each meeting; free recordings are deleted after 3 months.

If price or the 2-seat minimum is the reason

Fathom Premium costs $16 a month billed annually and $20 monthly. Team and Business are cheaper or richer per seat but need at least 2 users. Paid seats that cost less or have no minimum:

  • Otter Pro: $8.33 a month billed annually, $16.99 monthly, per Otter's pricing page.
  • Reline Professional: $12 a month billed annually, $15 monthly, with unlimited recording, transcription and storage, and no seat minimum.
  • Granola Business: $14 a month.
  • tl;dv Pro: €18 a month billed annually, €29 monthly.

If you need a team library and CRM workflows: tl;dv, Fireflies or Otter

Check what you already have first: Fathom's Free and Premium plans include CRM sync with HubSpot, Salesforce and Close for up to 3 users per email domain, and Business writes insights into CRM fields. If you need more, Otter Business syncs notes to Salesforce or HubSpot for unlimited users ($19.99 billed annually, $30 monthly), tl;dv runs HubSpot, Salesforce and Salesloft workflows with integration credits, and Fireflies includes app and CRM integrations on its Pro and Business plans. Granola Business connects to HubSpot, Attio and Affinity, with Salesforce on Enterprise.

Reline is not the pick here. It integrates with Slack, Linear and Notion and offers an MCP server for AI assistants, but it has no CRM sync.

If languages are the reason: Jamie, Reline or Fireflies

Fathom lists 38 transcript languages, and its bot-free version handles English plus 19 others. Jamie lists 99+ languages on all plans, Reline transcribes 60+ languages with automatic language detection, and Fireflies supports English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italian plus 100+ more in beta. Otter's pricing page lists six. If your calls switch languages mid-meeting, test with a real recording before you commit.

Only deciding between Fathom and Granola?

That is a different question: a recorder that keeps the call against a notepad that keeps no audio. Our Granola vs Fathom guide goes through capture, free plans, prices, summaries and privacy for those two, and the three-way guide adds Otter.

Where Reline fits, honestly

Reline is a notes app first: bot-free local capture on every plan, a live transcript that separates your voice from the other side of the call (Me vs Other), AI summaries next to the kept recording, reusable Lenses, a Notion-style editor your team writes in together, and chat across notes, folders and workspaces. Transcription, AI and storage run in the cloud; only the capture happens on your device.

What it does not do: it records audio, not video; there is no mobile app; there is no CRM sync; and the Linux app is in beta. If you need video clips or CRM updates, Fathom or tl;dv will serve you better.

When should you stay on Fathom?

Stay if you record a lot of calls on a free plan, want video recordings, or need CRM sync for a small team without paying: few tools match unlimited free recordings with HubSpot and Salesforce sync for up to 3 users. Fathom also says it is HIPAA, SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliant. If the bot is your only problem and you use a recent Mac, try its bot-free beta before you move.

How do you switch without losing your history?

  1. Export the recordings, transcripts and summaries you want to keep before you cancel anything.
  2. Pick your reason for leaving from the sections above and trial only the tools that solve it.
  3. Run the new tool next to Fathom for a week of real meetings.
  4. Tell participants how you record, especially once no bot announces itself.
  5. Downgrade or cancel Fathom once the new workflow sticks.

Can Fathom record without a bot?
Partly. Per its help center, bot-free recording is a Mac-only beta that needs macOS 14.2 or newer and is rolled out in phases; on Windows it is a limited Microsoft Teams alpha. Its Transcript Only mode saves no recording, and bot-free mode supports English and 19 other languages.
What are the limits of the Fathom free plan?
Recordings and transcripts are unlimited, but advanced AI summaries cover only your first 5 calls each month; after that you get the basic summary template. AI action items and follow-up emails come with Premium, and Ask Fathom is limited use on Free, per Fathom's pricing and help pages.
Which Fathom alternative works on Windows without a bot?
