Put real names
in your transcript

Drop in a WebVTT, SRT, plain text or Teams transcript. Every Speaker 1 and Unknown Speaker is listed with its turn count, speaking time and opening lines, so you can work out who is who. Type the real names and the whole transcript rewrites itself.

Your file never leaves this browser

The parsing, the renaming and the exports all happen on your own machine. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and there is no account to create.

WebVTT, SRT, TXT or MD, up to 10 MB

Read in your browser. Never uploaded.

Nothing loaded yet

Drop a file or paste a transcript above, and every speaker label in it shows up here.

How it works

Three steps, about a minute

Load the file you already have

A .vtt, .srt, .txt or .md file, or the transcript pasted straight out of a Teams .docx export. It is read in the browser, not sent anywhere.

Work out who is who

Each label comes with its turn count, its speaking time and the first lines it said. The opening line usually gives the host away in one read.

Copy it or download it

Readable turns, Markdown, plain text, or a re-emitted WebVTT file with the names in its voice tags. Copy to the clipboard or save the file.

Supported files

What you can drop in

WebVTT (.vtt)

Cue timings, optional cue identifiers, cue settings and voice spans (the "v" tags that carry the speaker) are all handled. NOTE blocks are skipped.

SubRip (.srt)

Numbered cues with comma decimals. A leading dash marking a change of speaker is understood.

Plain text (.txt, .md)

Any "Speaker 1: line" shape, with or without a timestamp in front of it.

Teams transcript paste

Paste the text straight out of the .docx export. The name and timestamp header is read whether the two sit on one line or two.

The WebVTT export is a plain .vtt file you can keep, edit, or hand to whoever asked for the transcript.

Questions

Before you paste anything

Does my transcript get uploaded?
No. The file is read, parsed, renamed and exported by JavaScript running in your own browser. There is no upload, no server call, no storage and no account. You can open your network tab and watch nothing happen.
Which files work?
WebVTT (.vtt), SubRip (.srt), plain text (.txt and .md), and a Teams transcript pasted out of the .docx export. Anything carrying "Speaker 1:" style labels or cue timings will parse.
How do I work out which one is Speaker 2?
Every label is listed with its turn count, total speaking time and the first lines it said. In most meetings the opening line identifies the host immediately, and the longest speaking time identifies whoever presented.
Can I get a WebVTT file back out?
Yes, as long as your source had both start and end times on its cues. The WebVTT tab re-emits every cue with the original timings and the new names in WebVTT voice tags, and you can download it as a .vtt file.
What if my transcript has no timestamps?
It still works. Each speaker shows its share of the words instead of a speaking time, and the readable, Markdown and plain text exports all behave normally. Only the WebVTT tab needs real cue timings.
Is this the only tool that does this?
No, other transcript cleaners exist. This one is free with no account, keeps your file inside your browser, reads four input formats, and is the same tool in seven languages.
