To record a GoTo Meeting session, the organizer selects Record in the GoTo desktop app or in the browser. The recording is stored on the computer or in the cloud, and an admin can turn recording off. As an attendee, ask the organizer to record. For your own notes, Reline records your laptop's audio with no bot.

Who can record a GoTo Meeting session?

GoTo's own pages describe recording as an organizer feature: GoTo Meeting lets organizers record a meeting with one button, and recordings are stored locally or in the cloud. GoTo also says administrators can turn recording off for a whole organization or for individual users. GoTo's pricing page shows paid plans and a free trial, not a free plan, and lists cloud recording among the plan features, so check what your plan includes.

Option 1: GoTo's own Record button

  1. Start the session as the organizer, in the GoTo desktop app or in your browser.
  2. Select Record in the session controls when you want to start.
  3. Stop the recording from the same controls when you are done.
  4. Find the file. A local recording stays on the organizer's computer. A cloud recording is saved to the organizer's GoTo account, where it can be shared with a link.

Before a long session, check GoTo's help center for the save folder, the file format and the length limits of your app version.

Option 2: record GoTo with your laptop's screen recorder

If the Record button is missing, your computer can record the GoTo window itself. You get a video file, not a transcript, and nothing appears in the session to tell the others.

  • Windows 10 and 11: press Windows key + G to open Xbox Game Bar, set the captured audio to all computer sounds in its Capturing settings, click into the GoTo window, then press Windows key + Alt + R to start and stop. The MP4 goes to the Captures folder inside Videos.
  • Windows 11: Snipping Tool can record a selected area with PC audio and your microphone (Microsoft added audio in version 11.2307.44.0). Turn both audio options on before you start.
  • Mac: Shift-Command-5 records the screen, but Apple offers Include System Audio only in macOS 27 or later. On older versions you get your microphone and not the other people in the session.

Can you record GoTo Meeting as an attendee?

Usually not with GoTo's recorder, which GoTo describes as an organizer feature. Your honest options: ask the organizer to record and share the file or a link to the cloud recording. If you only need notes, a recorder on your own computer captures what you hear, and nobody has to change your role. Either way, say you are recording.

Option 3: record GoTo Meeting without a bot, with Reline

Reline's desktop app for Mac and Windows records two local streams: your microphone and the system audio, which is everyone else in the GoTo session. You get a live transcript, an AI summary and the kept audio. Nothing joins the session, and your GoTo role and your admin's recording settings do not matter, because Reline does not record through GoTo.

  1. Download Reline for Mac or Windows and sign in. You can start on the Free plan.
  2. Allow the microphone, and on a Mac allow system audio recording when macOS asks. You can change both later in System Settings, under Privacy & Security.
  3. Join the GoTo session as usual, in the desktop app or in your browser.
  4. Press Record in Reline as the session starts. Reline does not detect the GoTo desktop app, so start it yourself. The live transcript starts as people talk, in 60+ languages with automatic language detection.
  5. Stop when the session ends. You get the transcript, an AI summary next to it and the kept audio, with a play button on every transcript line.

What Reline does not do

  • No video and no screen recording: Reline keeps audio, a transcript and a summary.
  • Speakers are labeled Me vs Other (your microphone vs the session audio). It does not read GoTo participant names.
  • No on-device AI: only the capture is local. Transcription, summaries and storage run in the cloud.
  • It does not replace the organizer's GoTo recording that your team may need for people who missed the session.
  • It does not detect the GoTo desktop app, so you press Record yourself. There is no mobile app.

Tell people you are recording

A screen recorder or Reline puts no notice in the GoTo session, so the notice is on you. Several US states, California among them, require every party to agree before a call is recorded, and in the EU you need a lawful basis under the GDPR and should say why you record. Rules differ by country and state, so check the rules where everyone on the call is. The simple habit: say at the start of the session that you are recording for notes, and stop if someone objects.

FAQ

Common questions

Can an attendee record a GoTo Meeting session?
Usually not with GoTo's Record button, which GoTo describes as an organizer feature. Ask the organizer to record and share it. A recorder on your own computer, such as Reline, captures the audio you hear without changing your role. Tell the others first.
Where are GoTo Meeting recordings saved?
GoTo offers local and cloud recording. A local recording stays on the organizer's computer, and a cloud recording is saved to the organizer's GoTo account, where it can be shared with a link. Check GoTo's help center for the exact folder in your app version.
How do I record GoTo Meeting on a laptop with audio?
As organizer, use GoTo's Record button. Otherwise, on Windows set Xbox Game Bar to capture all computer sounds before Windows key + Alt + R; on a Mac, Shift-Command-5 includes system audio only from macOS 27. Reline records your mic and the session audio by default.
Why is there no Record button in my GoTo Meeting?
GoTo describes recording as an organizer feature, so you may have joined as an attendee. GoTo also says administrators can turn recording off for a whole organization or for individual users, so ask your admin.
Does Reline record GoTo Meeting video?
No. Reline records audio and builds a transcript and summary. For video, use GoTo's Record button or your computer's screen recorder.
