- What ChatGPT's record mode does, per OpenAI's help center: click Record at the bottom of a chat in the ChatGPT macOS app, and it transcribes live from your microphone and your Mac's system audio. With Google Calendar connected, it can also join Google Meet calls on schedule. When you send the recording, ChatGPT writes notes you can turn into an email or a plan. Sessions stop automatically at 4 hours.
- Where it stops: record mode is only in the macOS desktop app, not on Windows or the web, and not on the free ChatGPT plan. OpenAI says audio files delete automatically after transcription, so you keep the transcript and notes but cannot press play to hear a line again. On Enterprise and Edu workspaces, record mode is off until a workspace owner turns it on.
- Speakers: OpenAI says record mode can distinguish multiple speakers, uses labels such as Speaker 1 when it cannot identify a name, and lets you rename them afterwards. Reline gives speaker separation (Me vs Other: your microphone vs the call audio).
