To record Google Meet on Windows 10 or 11, use Meet's Record button if your Google Workspace plan and the host allow it. If not, Windows' own Xbox Game Bar (Windows key + Alt + R) or Snipping Tool captures the call with sound. For a transcript and summary with no bot in the call, Reline's Windows app records your mic and the call audio.

Option 1: Google Meet's own Record button

Meet records to the cloud, but only on certain paid plans. Google lists Business Standard and Business Plus, the Enterprise editions, Essentials, Education Plus (staff), the Teaching and Learning Upgrade, Workspace Individual and Google One plans with 2 TB or more. Free personal Google accounts are not on that list. Your admin must allow recording, and you need the host's permission: the host, a co-host, or someone in the host's organization when Host Management is off can record. Google says you can record only on a computer or an Android device, so a Windows laptop works.

  1. Join the meeting in Chrome, Edge or the Meet app (on Windows, Google offers Meet as a web app you install from meet.google.com in Chrome).
  2. Click Meeting tools at the bottom right, then Recording, then Start recording, and confirm with Start. If you see no Recording option, your plan, your admin or the host does not allow it.
  3. Everyone in the meeting is notified when the recording starts and stops.
  4. When the meeting ends, the recording lands in the organizer's Google Drive, and the organizer and the person who started it get an email with the link.

Option 2: record Google Meet with the tools built into Windows

If the Record button is missing, Windows can capture the Meet window itself. Both tools below give you a video file, not a transcript, and neither tells the other people on the call.

Xbox Game Bar (Windows 10 and 11)

  1. Press Windows key + G to open Game Bar, open Settings, go to Capturing and set the audio to All, so all computer sounds are recorded, not only the game.
  2. Click into the Meet window so it is the app in front.
  3. Press Windows key + Alt + R to start recording, and Windows key + Alt + M to switch your microphone on or off during the recording.
  4. Press Windows key + Alt + R again to stop. Microsoft saves the MP4 in the Captures folder inside your Videos folder.

Snipping Tool (Windows 11)

On Windows 11, open Snipping Tool, select Record, then New, drag over the Meet window and select Start; select Stop when you are done. Microsoft added optional PC audio and microphone recording to Snipping Tool in version 11.2307.44.0, so update the app from the Microsoft Store and check that both audio options are on before you start. Microsoft documents video snips for Windows 11 only, so on Windows 10 use Game Bar.

Option 3: record Google Meet on Windows without a bot, with Reline

If you want notes rather than a video, record your PC instead of the meeting. Reline's Windows desktop app records your microphone and the system audio (everyone else on the call) locally, then gives you a live transcript, an AI summary and the kept audio. Nothing joins the call and you do not need host rights or a paid Workspace plan.

  1. Download the Reline Windows app and sign in. You can start on the Free plan.
  2. Allow the microphone: in Windows 11, open Settings, Privacy & security, Microphone, and turn on "Let desktop apps access your microphone".
  3. Join your meeting in Chrome, Edge or the Meet app as usual.
  4. Press Record in Reline. The live transcript starts as people talk, in 60+ languages with automatic language detection.
  5. Stop when the call ends. You get the transcript, an AI summary next to it, and the kept audio, with a play button on every transcript line.

Speaker names: Speaker Tags, which is rolling out and not on for every account yet, names who is speaking when it is switched on in Reline, the Reline browser extension is installed in Chrome or Edge, and Google Meet is open in that browser. Without it, the transcript is labeled Me vs Other (your microphone vs the call audio).

What Reline does not do on Windows

  • No video: Reline keeps audio and a transcript, not a screen recording. For video, use Meet, Game Bar or Snipping Tool.
  • It records the whole default output, not one window, so other sounds on your PC are captured too.
  • Speakers are Me vs Other unless Speaker Tags (rolling out) is on and Meet is open in Chrome or Edge with the browser extension.
  • No on-device AI: transcription, summaries and storage run in the cloud. Only the capture is local.
  • You press Record yourself, and there is no mobile app.

Tell people you are recording

Meet's notice only covers its own Record button. Game Bar, Snipping Tool and Reline put no notice in the call, so the notice is on you. Several US states, California among them, require every party to agree before a call is recorded, and in the EU you need a lawful basis under the GDPR and should say why you record. Rules differ by country and state, so check the rules where everyone on the call is. The simple habit: say at the start of the call that you are recording for notes, and stop if someone objects.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I record Google Meet on Windows for free?
Not with Meet's Record button, which needs a paid Workspace or Google One plan. Xbox Game Bar and Snipping Tool are built into Windows and free, and Reline has a Free plan for a transcript and summary.
Why is there no Record button in my Google Meet?
Your plan may not include recording, your admin may have turned it off, or the host has not given you permission. Free personal Google accounts are not on the list of plans that can record.
How do I record Google Meet with audio on Windows 11?
In Game Bar, set Capturing audio to All before you press Windows key + Alt + R. In Snipping Tool, switch on PC audio and the microphone before you start. Reline records your mic and the call audio by default.
Does Google Meet notify others if I record my screen?
Meet notifies everyone only for its own Record button. A screen recorder or Reline on your PC adds no notice, so tell the other people yourself.
Can I record Google Meet on a Windows laptop?
Yes. The steps are the same on any Windows 10 or 11 laptop. Google says Meet recording works on a computer or an Android device.
Does Reline record Google Meet video on Windows?
No. Reline records audio and builds a transcript and AI summary. For video, use the Meet Record button, Game Bar or Snipping Tool.
