Does Zoom notify participants when you record?

• 01The notice is tied to Zoom’s own recording. Zoom’s documentation is unambiguous about it: Zoom will always notify meeting participants that a meeting is being recorded, and anyone dialled in by phone always hears a voice prompt.
• 02Consent can be made a hard gate. With the recording consent disclaimer on, each person joining a recorded meeting is asked to agree, and the only alternative Zoom offers is to leave the meeting. On Business, Education, API and Enterprise accounts with 100 or more licenses, owners and admins can also rewrite that text.
• 03A third-party notetaker bot is a different case. It joins as a participant, so it sits in the roster under its own name, and the host watches it arrive whether or not the Zoom recording banner is what fired.
• 04Local capture is the case the banner cannot cover. Reline records what your computer plays plus your microphone, on your machine. Nothing joins the meeting, so there is no participant to list and no recording event for Zoom to raise a notice about.
• 05That mechanism does not remove your duty to disclose. Consent law varies: some jurisdictions accept one party’s consent, others require everyone’s.
