Does Zoom's AI Companion record the meeting?
Not by itself. Zoom AI Companion’s meeting summary creates a text recap, not an audio or video recording — recording is a separate setting. It’s also a host-enabled Zoom feature that notifies participants and, since 2026, asks them to accept an AI disclaimer. Reline instead records locally on your own device, on any platform.

The details
- AI Companion is built into Zoom and controlled by the host or admin — it only works in Zoom, and participants are prompted to consent before it’s active.
- Its meeting summary is a text summary; to get an actual recording you must turn on Zoom cloud recording separately, which has its own notifications.
- Reline is different: it captures your mic and the meeting’s system audio locally on Mac, Windows, or Linux, so you own the recording and it works on Zoom, Meet, Teams, Webex, or in person — no host setting required.
- You still get a speaker-labeled transcript and a citation-backed summary; capture is local, transcription and AI run securely in the cloud.
