Short answer: Viber has no built-in call recording. To record a Viber call on a PC, take it in Viber for Desktop (Windows, Mac or Linux) and run a recorder that captures your microphone and system audio, such as Reline. On your phone? Transfer the call to your computer first. Ask everyone before you record.

Can you record calls on Viber?

Not inside Viber. Viber's help center explains how to make one-to-one and group voice and video calls on desktop, share your screen and transfer a call to another device, and it describes no way to record a call. Viber Plus, the paid subscription, does not add one either. You can request a Call Detail Record report from Viber, but it lists the time, duration and numbers of your calls, not what was said. Any recording of a Viber call comes from software on your computer.

Viber call typeEnd-to-end encrypted (per Viber)Built-in recordingOn Viber for Desktop
One-to-one voice or video callYesNoneYes
Group call (up to 60 people)NoNoneYes
Viber Out call to a phone numberNoNoneYes, voice only, one person

On desktop you can also create a call link (Compose, then New call link) and share it: up to 60 people can join, Viber sets no time limit, and everyone still needs Viber on a phone or computer.

What you need to record a Viber call on a PC

  • Viber for Desktop, linked to Viber on your phone. Viber supports Windows 10 (64-bit, version 1607 and newer) and Windows 11, macOS 11 Big Sur and later, and 64-bit Fedora and Ubuntu, with limited updates and support for Linux.
  • A recorder that captures system audio (the other side) as well as your microphone (your side). Reline's desktop app does this on Windows, macOS and Linux (beta).
  • Headphones, ideally. On open speakers your microphone also hears the other side, and some of their words can land on your side of the transcript.
  • The other person's yes, or the group's.

How to record a Viber call on a Windows PC

  1. Install Viber for Desktop for Windows from viber.com and link it to your phone by scanning the QR code with Viber on your phone.
  2. Install the Reline desktop app for Windows and sign in. The Free plan is enough to start.
  3. Allow the microphone for Reline: in Windows 11, open Settings, Privacy & security, Microphone, and turn on "Let desktop apps access your microphone".
  4. Check where Viber plays the call. Reline records the whole Windows default output device, and Viber's audio call settings let you pick a different output device. Keep Viber's output on your Windows default device, or the other side is missed; music and notification sounds on that device are recorded too.
  5. Place or answer the call with the audio or video button. Reline does not detect Viber calls on its own, so you start the recording yourself.
  6. Ask at the start of the call whether you may record for notes. Once you hear a clear yes, press Record in Reline. The live transcript starts as people talk.
  7. Stop the recording when you hang up. You get the transcript, an AI summary and the kept audio, with a play button on every transcript line.

Already on the call on your phone? Move it to your PC

Viber can transfer a live call to another device that has Viber, a desktop included. On your phone, tap Call transfer during a voice call, or open Menu and tap Transfer during a video call. Viber for Desktop rings, and the call on your phone hangs up once you pick it up on the computer. Reline hears the call only from that moment on, so get the yes on the computer, then press Record.

How to record a Viber call on a Mac

  1. Install Viber for Desktop for Mac (macOS 11 Big Sur or later) and link it to your phone.
  2. Install the Reline desktop app for Mac (macOS 12 or later) and sign in.
  3. Allow the microphone when macOS asks, then allow system audio. On macOS 14.2 and later this is an audio-only permission; on macOS 13 to 14.1 Reline uses the screen and system audio permission, which can need an app restart. Before macOS 13, only your microphone is recorded, so on macOS 12 you get your side of the call only. Reline does not run on macOS 11, which Viber still supports.
  4. Place or answer the Viber call, ask for consent, then press Record in Reline. Reline does not detect Viber calls on its own.
  5. Stop when you hang up and open the note for the transcript, summary and audio.

How to record a Viber call on Linux

Viber supports 64-bit Fedora and Ubuntu, with limited updates and support, and its setup guide points to the Linux downloads on Viber's desktop download page. Reline's Linux desktop app (beta) records your microphone and system audio through PulseAudio or PipeWire. The steps match Windows. If the transcript only shows your side, check that your output device is not muted: a muted output gives Reline silence.

Other ways to record a Viber call on a computer

MethodWhat you getThe catch
Xbox Game Bar (Windows key + G)An MP4 video of the Viber windowSet the captured audio to All so every computer sound is included; no transcript
Snipping Tool (Windows 11)A video of an area of the screenPC audio and microphone are options since version 11.2307.44.0; no transcript
Mac Screenshot toolbar (Shift-Command-5)A screen videoSystem audio only on macOS 27 or later (Include System Audio); earlier versions record a microphone only

Viber has no recording feature, so it shows no recording notice, and a recorder on your computer adds nothing to the call either: nobody knows unless you say so, so the notice is on you. Several US states, California among them, require every party to agree before a call is recorded, and in the EU you need a lawful basis under the GDPR and should say why you record. Rules differ by country and state, so check the rules where everyone on the call is. The simple habit: say at the start of the call that you are recording for notes, and stop if someone objects.

Where Reline fits, and where it does not

  • Fits: one-to-one, group and Viber Out calls you take in Viber for Desktop on Windows, Mac or Linux (beta), when everyone agrees and you want a searchable transcript in 60+ languages plus a summary.
  • Audio and transcript only: Reline does not record the video or a shared screen.
  • Speaker labels are Me vs Other (your microphone vs the call audio). In a group call the other side is one voice, "Other", until you switch on Separate speakers (beta) in the transcript panel: Reline then numbers each voice (Speaker 1, Speaker 2) and you name them yourself. Reline cannot read names from Viber.
  • Not for calls on your phone: there is no Reline mobile app. Transfer the call to Viber for Desktop instead.
  • Not local-only: audio goes to a cloud transcription provider, audio and notes are stored in cloud storage (Cloudflare R2), and summaries and chat use cloud AI models. Notes are private by default.
  • If everything must stay on your machine, an offline recorder with a local transcription model is the better match.

Recording WhatsApp and Telegram calls too

The same setup works for other calling apps that no notetaker bot can join. WhatsApp and Telegram have desktop apps too, each with its own quirks around recording.

Get started

Start on the Free plan to record your first calls. Professional is $15 per month ($140 per year) and Enterprise is $32 per month ($26 per month on annual).

FAQ

Common questions

Can you record Viber calls on a PC?
Yes, with software on your computer. Viber has no built-in call recording, so take the call in Viber for Desktop and run a recorder that captures your microphone and system audio, such as Reline's desktop app, to get both sides. Ask everyone first.
Does Viber have a call recorder?
No. Viber's help center covers making and transferring calls and sharing your screen, but it describes no recording option, and Viber Plus does not add one. A Call Detail Record report shows when you called and for how long, not what was said.
Does Viber notify the other person if I record a call?
Not when you record on your computer. Viber has no recording feature of its own, and a recorder on your computer shows nothing in the call. The other person only knows if you tell them, so ask at the start and stop if they object.
Can I record a Viber video call with the video?
Reline records the audio and gives you a transcript and a summary, not the video. For a video file, use Xbox Game Bar or Snipping Tool on Windows, the Screenshot toolbar on a Mac (system audio only on macOS 27 or later), or OBS Studio.
Can I record a Viber call on my phone with Reline?
No. Reline has desktop apps for Windows, macOS and Linux (beta) plus a web app, and no mobile app. Take the call in Viber for Desktop, or transfer a live call from your phone to your computer, and record it there.
Is a Reline recording still end-to-end encrypted?
No. Viber's end-to-end encryption protects one-to-one calls themselves. Once Reline captures the audio, it is sent to a cloud transcription provider and stored in Reline's cloud storage, outside Viber.
