Best Zoom AI Companion Alternative in 2026, by Need
Zoom's AI is good inside paid Zoom. Here is what to use when your meetings, your role or your budget sit outside it.
In this article
The best Zoom AI Companion alternative depends on why you are leaving. For meetings across Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams with no bot in the call, use a desktop recorder such as Reline (which we make) or Granola. For a team in one suite, Gemini in Meet or Teams recap fits better. If every call is on paid Zoom, stay.
Why people look for a Zoom AI Companion alternative
Zoom's AI works well when Zoom is where you meet and your company pays for it. The friction starts at the edges. Every point below comes from Zoom's own pricing and support pages, checked on 2026-10-20.
- It is built around Zoom. In Google Meet or Microsoft Teams calls, Zoom AI joins as a participant with Zoom branding and an AI indicator, and posts a chat message 3 minutes in. That needs a paid plan, a connected calendar, an admin setting and the Zoom desktop app (6.4.5 or later), and it covers those two platforms only.
- The host is in charge. Only the host or co-host can start or stop a meeting summary, only the host can edit or delete it, and participants get a copy only if the host shares it and they are signed in. In someone else's meeting, you get what the host decides.
- The free plan is a sampler. Zoom Basic lists meeting summaries for 3 hosted meetings a month and 3 AI note-taking uses. Unlimited summaries start with Pro at $16.99 per user per month, or $14.16 billed annually.
- It has gaps inside the meeting. Meeting Summary is not available in breakout rooms, and a summary is text: to hear a moment again you need Zoom's separate recording feature.
- It has to be switched on. Meeting Summary must be enabled on the account, and Zoom says it may not be available for some industries and regions. If your admin keeps it off, you cannot start it.
- Language coverage is narrower. Zoom lists 33 languages for meeting summaries and 9 for My Notes.
Has Zoom fixed this with My Notes?
Partly. My Notes is Zoom's own answer to the bot problem: you run the Zoom app next to a Teams, Meet or other third-party call, click the My Notes icon, and it takes notes with no bot joining. It needs Zoom client 6.7.5 or later for all features, is included in paid Zoom Workplace plans, and is also sold on its own from $8.33 per user per month. Zoom Basic includes 3 uses a month. If your company already runs on Zoom, try it before you add another tool.
The best Zoom AI Companion alternatives, by need
We make Reline, one of the tools on this list, so here is how we chose. We grouped tools by the reason people give for leaving Zoom AI, and for each we say who it suits and where it falls short. Prices are per user per month, from each vendor's own pricing page.
Every call is on Zoom and you pay for Zoom Workplace: keep Zoom AI
If your meetings all happen in Zoom and your seats are already paid, unlimited meeting summaries come at no extra cost, inside the app everyone already uses, managed from the same admin console. Switching only makes sense if one of the problems above actually hurts.
Meetings on Zoom, Meet and Teams, no bot in the call: Reline
Reline records your microphone and your computer audio on macOS, Windows or Linux (beta), so it works in any meeting app or browser call, including a breakout room you are in, and nothing joins the call. Transcription in 60+ languages, AI summaries and storage run in the cloud. The audio stays with the note, so you can press play on any transcript line. Notes are private by default, and your team can edit them together. Free gives you 1 hour per note and 10 hours of transcription a month, with no card. Professional is $15, or $12 billed annually.
Where it falls short: there is no mobile app, and nothing appears in the call, so telling people you are recording is up to you.
Your team lives in Google Meet: Gemini "Take notes for me"
Built into Google Meet, it can be started from Google Calendar, the Meet green room or the call itself, and also works for in-person meetings. Per Google, it needs an eligible Google Workspace edition or Google AI plan, and the meeting organizer's edition is the one that counts. It is Zoom AI's limit in reverse: built for Meet.
Your team lives in Microsoft Teams: Teams intelligent recap
Teams creates AI notes and a recap after a meeting. Per Microsoft, intelligent recap comes with the Teams Premium add-on or a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Like Zoom AI, it is the right pick when nearly every meeting is in Teams.
Notes on desktop and phone, no recording kept: Granola
Granola captures device audio with no bot and has desktop and phone apps. Its security page says it does not store meeting audio, only the transcript and your notes, so you keep notes and a transcript, not a recording. Basic is free with 30 days of meeting history; Business is $14 and Enterprise $35.
A generous free plan for recorded calls: Fathom
Fathom's free plan lists unlimited recordings and transcriptions. You choose bot capture or bot-free capture, which is in beta on Mac. Premium is $20, or $16 billed annually; Team is $19, or $15 annually, with a 2-user minimum; Business, with CRM sync and coaching metrics, is $34, or $25 annually.
A bot is fine and you want a low annual price: Otter
Otter's meeting agent joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls as a visible guest, and its Mac and Windows desktop app records without a bot. Free Basic gives 300 minutes a month with a 30-minute cap per conversation. Pro is $16.99, or $8.33 billed annually; Business is $30, or $19.99 annually.

How to move off Zoom AI without losing a meeting
- List where your meetings happen. If more than a few are on Meet or Teams, or hosted by clients, a Zoom-only tool will keep leaving gaps.
- Check what your admin allows. Some companies block third-party notetakers and recording apps, so ask before you install one.
- Run both for a week. Keep Zoom AI on in your Zoom meetings, try the alternative everywhere else, then compare the notes you actually reused.
- Tell people when you record. A recorder on your computer shows nothing in the call, so say it at the start and follow the consent rules where you and your participants are.
Common questions
- Is Zoom AI Companion still available in 2026?
- Yes, under new names. On June 24, 2026 Zoom said the capabilities that carried the AI Companion name are still built into Zoom Workplace and are now named by what they do, such as Meeting Summary and My Notes. ZoomMate is a new add-on for agentic features. Eligible paid Zoom Workplace plans still include the core AI features at no extra cost.
- Can I use Zoom AI Companion in Google Meet or Microsoft Teams?
- Yes, with limits. Zoom AI can join Meet and Teams calls as a visible participant with Zoom branding and an AI indicator, if you have a paid Zoom Workplace plan, a connected calendar, the admin setting turned on and the Zoom desktop app. The joining assistant supports only those two platforms. My Notes can also take notes in third-party calls without a bot when you run the Zoom app alongside.
- Is Zoom AI Companion free?
- Only as a sampler. Zoom Basic lists meeting summaries for 3 hosted meetings a month and 3 AI note-taking uses. Paid plans include unlimited meeting summaries, starting with Pro at $16.99 per user per month, or $14.16 billed annually.
- Can I get a Zoom AI summary in a meeting I do not host?
- Only through the host. The host or co-host starts the summary; participants can ask the host to start it, and they receive a copy only if the host shares it and they are signed in. A recorder on your own computer works in any meeting you attend, as long as you have the participants' consent.
- Does Reline work with Zoom without a bot?
- Yes. Reline records your microphone and the call audio on your computer, so nothing joins the Zoom meeting and you need no Zoom license. Transcription, AI summaries and storage run in the cloud. Nothing shows in the call, so let participants know you are recording.
- Which Zoom AI Companion alternative has a free plan?
- Reline's free plan renews monthly with 1 hour per note and 10 hours of transcription, no card needed. Fathom's free plan lists unlimited recordings and transcriptions, Otter Basic gives 300 minutes a month, and Granola Basic keeps 30 days of history. Each has different trade-offs, covered above.
